Silent Film in Buffalo, New York
Presented by the Riviera Theatre, the Buffalo International Film Festival and the Buffalo Film Society, the special three-day Harold Lloyd Film Festival will take place in the extraordinary, landmark Riviera Theatre. As part of the festival, Patrick Loughney and Dr. Anthony Bannon of George Eastman House, along with Suzanne Lloyd (Lloyd’s granddaughter), will introduce the presentation of some Harold Lloyd Classics.
Constructed in 1926, the Riviera Theatre is equipped with a silver screen, original carbon-arc projectors and the unique Wurlitzer ‘demonstration organ’ constructed, less than a mile away, at the original Wurlitzer organ factory in Tonawanda, New York. The carbon-arc projectors were saved through the efforts of the Buffalo International Film Festival. Recently the organ was completely cleaned, reconstructed and reconfigured by a team lead by Clark Wilson. One of only 30 Wurlitzer Organs in the world (out of more than 2,300) still installed in its original location, this extraordinary instrument is now considered one of the finest of its type. The festival will be the premiere of the newly-restored organ.
The festival is presented with live musical accompaniment by Robert Israel and Clark Wilson.
Individual events are $15.00; BFS members, $13.00. Festival pass to all six screenings (10 films!) is $54.00 (service fees may apply to Internet and phone orders); BFS members, $48.00 at boxoffice with membership card. Festival pass, plus dinner: $73.50.
