The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit museum dedicated to the acquisition and historic preservation of artifacts and local history of film making in Niles and the greater Bay Area. The mission of our museum is to preserve local history, especially as it pertains to the movie making in Niles. We educate the public about silent films and the unique role that Niles had in the movie industry.
Our museum is located at 37417 Niles Boulevard, in a 1913 vintage nickelodeon theater. Built in the 1880s, this grand and picturesque locale has attracted such luminaries as Charlie Chaplin, Edna Purviance, Ben Turpin and Wallace Beery. We are restoring it to its original appearance, right down to the wainscoting! As part of our community outreach, we provide tours to seniors and school children.
The Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum hosts regular weekly silent film showings at 7:30 PM each Saturday. Further details on the Museum, Film Festivals, Saturday Night @ the Movies and other events can be found at www.nilesfilmmuseum.org, or call 510-494-1411 or 510-796-1940To see the complete schedule, check out www.nilesfilmmuseum.org or call 510-494-1411.
