This edition of this silent era Chinese romance has been transferred from a contrasty and soft-focused 16mm source print, which is moderately speckled and dusty, with processing imperfections and a little emulsion damage. It seems a pity that a better source print was not utilized for the transfer as the costumes and architecture in the film deserves a higher-quality picture. The film is accompanied by an original music score composed and performed on synthesizers by Toshiyuki Hiraoka. The edition’s packaging can be misleading as the artwork quality easily surpasses the visual quality of the source print.
