Frank Zappa: lead guitar, low grumbles and oo-wah; Ray Collins: lead vocals; Roy Estrada: high weazlings, dweady-doop and electric bass; Jimmy Carl Black: lewd pulsating rhythm (drums); Arthur Dyre Tripp III: lewd pulsating rhythm (drums); Don Preston: redundant piano triplets; Ian Underwood: tenor and alto saxophones and redundant piano triplets; Bunk Gardner: tenor and alto saxophones; Jim ‘Motorhead’ Sherwood: baritone saxophone and tambourine; Chad Wackerman: drums (CD remix version); Arthur Barrow: electric bass (CD remix version); Jay Anderson?: acoustic upright bass (CD remix version).

A partly-satirical, partly-homage album of fifties-style doo-wop that harkens lovingly back to Zappa and the band’s teenage years. An odd side project for The Mothers of Invention, given their relatively short recording career up to this point. Embraced by some, reviled by others. The album was originally released with an insert of instructions on “How to Dance the Bop” and “How to Comb and Set a Jellyroll.”

For the initial compact disc release, Frank Zappa produced a new version of the album with new rhythm section overdubs and a completely remixed master. Consensus among FZ fans is that the remix version is an atrocity.
