The Golden Gate Theatre was a first-run motion picture house, originally built for both live theater and film performances.
By 1932, the theater had become part of the RKO chain.
The building was converted in the late 1960s into a twin-screen theater, which later sat idle until the theater was renovated by the Shorenstein Hays Nederlander Organization to present live performances again.
