Market Street Theatre underwent a number of names changes throughout the silent era.

In the sound era, the theater was known as the Marion Davies (or Davies, circa 1932), and subsequently was renamed the Esquire Theater.

The theater closed in 1972 and was demolished to allow development of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system.
