The Everett Theatre, originally built as a vaudeville theater, opened in 1901. It is not known when the theater began presenting films. The theater building was gutted by fire in 1923, and was rebuilt and reopened in 1924, at which time it was now known as the New Everett Theatre. The theater was acquired by Fox in 1929 as part of William Fox’s industry-wide expansion.
The building was remodelled in 1952 in an attempt to stem the loss of audience to television. In 1979, the balcony was enclosed and the theater converted into a tri-screen venue. The building eventually closed in 1989 after the heating system failed and funds were not available for repair. Sometime after, the Everett Theatre Society was formed to raise funds to restore the theater to something near its post-1924 state.
