Synopsis: [?] [From The Moving Picture World]? In the water that glimmers in the foreground there is a shadow, then a ruffle on the clear surface and then a canoe creeps out containing a young trapper and his Indian helper. Arriving at the fort he learns of an expected Indian outbreak. Grace, the colonel’s daughter, has gone for a ride. The trapper follows and saves her from the pursuing Indians after her horse has been shot down from under her. This is one of the most cleverly arranged and spectacular pieces of business yet conceived for a western picture. The lieutenant, loving Grace himself, is anxious to have the trapper on his way. Failing in this, he persuades him to take drugged whiskey. While the trapper lies in the guard house supposedly drunk the Indians attack. Here he is found by his Indian helper, and following the administration of some herbs, he regains himself. The attacking Indians press hard; the fort is set afire. The trapper escapes from the guard, kills several Indians and rides away for help. In the meantime the lieutenant negotiates for a surrender. Grace appeals to the men to ignore the coward. The trapper arrives in time to save the day, but is mortally wounded in the fight that ensues. He is left in the open dying by the stream, while Grace waits in the fading twilight for his return.
